"The 4400" tells the stories of 4,400 alien abductees after they are returned to earth. In the words of the executive producers, these are stories of people dealing with traumatic changes, driven by the mystery of what happened and why. Some of them have been affected in mysterious ways, and some will have certain abilities, both good and bad, so part of the drama will be watching them adjust to these changes within themselves.
　　The series kicks off with a ball of light sailing toward Earth, but rather than the expected catastrophic event, thousands of returned abductees are left with no memory of their otherworldly experiences. Each has been gone anywhere from a few months to several decades but hasn't aged a day.

　　其間，Richard，Lily，和他們的孩子——一個六個月大，不同尋常的孩子，仍然住在遠離Jordan Collier的山間小屋里，過著粗茶淡飯的日子。Collier已經(jīng)關(guān)掉了Arcadia Estates ，還有他的住宅，為這4400人建起了避難所，同時準備開“4400人中心”，在這兒，其他人可以深入到這4400人當中，自己去發(fā)掘4400人（的奧秘）。Collier在接觸Lily的腹部之后，出現(xiàn)了有害的反應(yīng)，Shawn治愈了他，之后他們就發(fā)展出親密的父子關(guān)系。Collier成了Shawn的監(jiān)護人，并利用他醫(yī)治4400人中心的重要贊助人。
　　世人對4400人甚感好奇，于是關(guān)于他們的神秘能力的流言四處傳播，公眾態(tài)度分為兩種，一種是包容他們，一種是畏懼他們。當4400人努力重新開始他們“被打斷的生活”時，每個人都會在即將發(fā)生的事件中扮演關(guān)鍵角色…那些決定人類命運的事件。
